No, it's not Woodrow Wilson Stadium in Randall Park, but why couldn't it be? And why would anyone try to hide something that big in his pocket?

On December 7, 2017, beginning at 8:30am, the Dallas Park and Recreation Board will meet on several issues, one of which will have some impact on our neighborhood: DISD's proposal to pave over a portion of Randall Park, located at the Santa Fe Trail and Glasgow, across from Woodrow Wilson High School.  There are varying opinions on the reasons behind this proposal, as recently reported in the Dallas Observer: http://www.dallasobserver.com/news/behind-a-park-dispute-in-east-dallas-lurks-a-football-stadium-for-woodrow-10115354   And, in the Lakewood Advocate:  https://lakewood.advocatemag.com/2017/11/21/battle-parking-lot-randall-park-pits-city-dallas-vs-dallas-isd/

Regardless of the reasons behind the proposed change, it may have an impact on traffic and parking in our neighborhood, particularly along Santa Fe.  For this reason, we encourage you to educate yourself about the potential impact of the proposed change, and whether to attend the Board meeting.  The Park & Rec Board meets at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla Street, Room 6FN.

The language of the Board's agenda item is:

DISD is planning to expand its athletic fields and parking facilities at Woodrow Wilson

High School located across from Randall Park on South Glasgow Drive. Construction of

this renovation project is expected to take approximately two years. During construction

DISD parking will be insufficient to meet staff needs. DISD has requested that it be

permitted to expand the Randall Park parking lot across the street from the school by

approximately twenty-eight spaces. During construction of the improvements to Woodrow

Wilson High School DISD staff will have exclusive use of the additional parking spaces

constructed in the park. Once DISD's renovation project is completed the parking lot will

remain for use by park patrons and DISD staff will use its own parking as defined in the

lnterlocal Agreement.

Currently the lnterlocal Agreement prohibits DISD from using Randall Park parking except

in conjunction with its activities in the park; parking at the park is not allowed for general

school parking. Park patrons are permitted to use Woodrow Wilson High School parking

lots when parking spaces are not needed by DISD or being used for school or schoolrelated

activities.

DISD staff will have exclusive use of the additional parking spaces constructed

during the entire length of the DISD renovation project. Upon completion of the

DISD renovation project, DISD staff will not be permitted to use parking at

Randall Park, except as permitted in the lnterlocal Agreement, namely, only in

connection with DISD's activities and use of the park on a first-come-firstparked

basis.
